Niko couldn't be more thrilled as he is officially THREE and a HALF now!
I, on the other hand, have not decided if I'm completely ready to have him grow up so quickly,
Yes, his independence and skill sets continue to make my work as a mother easier every day
(well, different work at least), BUT this house still needs a baby, right??
Niko is ALL about numbers- talks constantly about what number is bigger: this number or that one, if different number combinations really make a number, if this number really is big or not, and of course his favorite opening greeting, "How old are you?" Seriously, he stops at least four people a day just to ask this burning question. And it's not always directed toward a kid, even though that is the most important- "Am I older than him?" He still hasn't quite grasped the concept that he will ALWAYS be two years younger than Tyla. It's really quite frustrating as he tries all sort of combinations over and over and over to see if I'll ever change my mind, "Mom, how old will Tyla be when I'm 76?"

I'm super happy to report that Niko sleeps all night in his own bed, all by himself. When he was two he was notorious about coming into my bed in the middle of the night and then when he was three, he liked to sleep with a sibling, but now he prefers to sleep alone and that equals more sleep which makes for a happier kid and mom! Although it is quite rare for me to be successful putting him down for a nap, at least a couple times a week he'll put himself down. Like today- Tyla was on a playdate so he was on his own. He ate, played by himself, asked me a MILLION questions, read books, got bored and decided he needed a nap. How wonderful!
I'd say he continues to be a huge momma's boy, but he did have a couple week stretch a month ago where I thought the tide was turning. He had spent a couple days in a row at the field with dad and he couldn't get hitting and taking grounders off his mind. He'd wake up and say, "Mom, take me to Dad!" I'd let him know Dad was at school and he'd say, "It's okay- he'll work me in. I wanna hit!" Oh my! Keith even took him on the bus to Boulder with the FCHS team one afternoon. Games were different and he was getting bored in the dugout. He went up to Keith during the 2nd inning and said, "Dad, call Mom." Like I was going to come and get him in Boulder. Bahaha! He scaled back after that and hasn't asked to leave my side quite as often again.
Although he continues to have quite a temper (boy, does he fight back with his siblings), he can be super sweet and loving too! My favorite is when I'm working doing something he asked for and he says, "Mom, I really like you." Awwww!
